KONG

Hello all. Luke R and myself just watched KING KONG (for only £2.50 I'll add- take that Vue you bastards)

To sum up the film- it was awesome. A strong cast holds up the human side of the picture very well, but all are blown away by KONG and Co. The action sequences are truly mesmerising, no director can compete with Jackson in these stakes. I felt it was perhaps a little over sentimental at times, but as Luke R said to me after, it needed to be to establish the delicate relationships within the film.

I recommend everyone go and see this film as soon as you have finished reading this if you haven't already. Please feel free to leave your own comments about the film. At just over 3 hours you will want to take along a pillow (we did!)

Finally thank you peter Jackson for perhaps the most entertaining movie of the year.

side-note:
People who talk during films should be barred from seeing them. I felt removed from my feeling of illusion and empathy, and it wasn't even a 'brechtian' film. People- if you don't have the ability shut up for a few hours then don't go, It was like open-mike night in City Cinema, everyone seemed to feel obliged to make comments, especially during the quiet moments. Next time go into the lobby to have a chat you inconsiderate wankers.

Went and saw the movie today and I totally agree with what youve said dan, Peter Jackson has done a great job in reviving the classic...
However a few points that I felt brought the film down:

- In my opinion the character Jimmy (Jamie Bell) didnt add a whole lot to the film, I felt slightly confused as to what his background was and even more confused as to why this wasnt really answered (correct me if I'm wrong)... Not really sure if he was needed. Having said this I think Jamie Bell played the part well.

- Secondly, what happened to the tribes people?? There must have been hundrends of them, yet they seemed to vanish into thin air after the crew set foot on the island. I understand that they were scared of the firing of the weapons, but they went from seriously scary to insignificant in what seemed no time at all.

- And finally, how did they get Kong (the ape) onto the already damaged ship!!! (Perhaps im reading too much into it, but Peter Jackson sneakily left that stage of the film out...)

On a more positive note I would strongly advise whoever reads this to see the film if they havent already, try to get a showing with not too many talkers, there are a few silent moments in the film...

(DONT TOLLERATE TALKERS!!! GET A MEMBER OF STAFF!!! YOU MIGHT EVEN GET A FREE TICKET IF YOU MOAN ENOUGH!!!)

To second guy's points on the film :

I feel that Jimmies involvement in the film wasnt supported by the "high" profile of his acting experience, seemingly the final script has been subjected to a carving and although possibly filmed... (the "scream scene" that was included in the trailer didnt make it to the final cut) 3 and a half hours provided problems in face of "the consumer's patience". Despite this the pace was cut to perfection and succeeded in capturing both my imagination and enthusiasm (something that is missing in a lot of re-makes).

Jackson brings forth an incredible array of creatures and unleashes THE MOST GUT WRENCHING-SWEAT INDUCING EROTIC CREATURE ever to grace the screen. YES thats right, the pink leech like worms that snacked on every protruding inch of Andy Serkis. I sank in my seat when the fleshy pink mouth extended and slid over his head.

As for the dinosaurs, I watched with little appreciation for their modelling design when compared to the majectic kong and the insects. In fact confronting this part of the film after experiencing the whole film makes me realise how utterly uninspired and dissapointing this section of the screenplay was.

Ive lost myself with the original points i wanted to look into, but at no point during this rant do I want to appear as unhappy with the film, I enjoyed it and these points are mere niggles that most films contain.

TO continue - John Sumner's acting dragged the entire introduction to Ann Darrow down to his B-movie ability... and in researching his experience one can only assume that his inclusion in such a high budget film is thanks to his previous work with Jackson in 'The Frighteners'.

Apart from this anomanly the acting was spotless, with Jack adapting to this character with impressive flexibility. Naomi Watts was literally jaw-dropping and this was complimented by Adrien Brody through the delicate romantic relationship. Thomas Kretschmann a n00b to the big screen handled his character with convincingly especially when your acting ability has only been tested by films such as 'Resident Evil:Apocalypse' / 'Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2' / and 'The Karate Dog'!!! Enough said.

Back to Guy's review/moan... I agree with the confusing dissapearence of the natives from what looks like a physically powerful race. I ask - How would they comprehend the destructive force of a gun beyond the noise it makes, especially when the (obviouslly) primal mind would consider physical numbers over the use of technology?!

Although re-makes possess a certain immunity to plot-holes due to their reliance on the original (we hope!) the subbmission of Kong using a hefty bottle of Chloroform raises issues when evaluating previous decisions by the ship's crew to throw all extra weight overboard in order to allow the vessel to float ... again I ask - Now fixed, (within 24hrs using half the crew) how will they tackle the scientifically insummountable task of dragging Kong along the ground, through the water and finally up onto the boat (surely the weight of a few tables dont match Kong!)?! Let alone the problem with customs when you get back to dock!

Direction was excellent and like Dan said you cant beat Jackson for the fantasy action. The T-Rex fight was by far the highlight of the film for me, and the final showdown did NOT dissapoint with a beautifully animated "kerbing" or breaking of the T-Rex's jaw!!!

I'll finish there on a high note and go to sleep smiling for this is the first film for a LONG time 0_o in which I have been able to enjoy the film without talking/phone ringing and ANSWERING/physical tomfoolery and violence. Thanks to a pre-assigned guard who, equipped with a notepad was sufficiently intimidating for the *ahem* little SHITS to bung any uncontrollable urges to tutor the audience in their recient sexual experiences with Jordan, Dewayne and Kye on the swings or in the toilets of the local community centre!

*SHUDDERS*

Luke.

There's only one creature big enough to make this, the ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN!
